Maxi Dress: Three Ways

I know, I know. I really have been overdoing maxis haven’t I? So, I planned this post almost a year ago and never got around to doing it. But well, I just couldn’t leave the idea hanging so I decided to finally do it. Better late than never right?

Most of us don’t like repeating outfits too often and this is when styling comes to play. As much as we’d all love to, not everyone has Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe, sigh! So it becomes very important to work smartly with what we have.  For this post I decided to have some fun with this basic black maxi dress which was a random buy that I found hidden in my closet and styled the same to create distinctly varied looks.

PS - Please excuse the really badly painted nails in this post!

The right styling can transform any outfit from dressed up fancy to a little bit funky, work appropriate to playful weekend ensembles.

When it comes to an evening out or a glamorous party look, a maxi dress is no brainer. Throw on a ton of accessories and go all out for a dressy affair. Wear a nice pair of earrings and a smart metallic cuff or an oversized ring with a fancy clutch; there are endless possibilities to dress your maxi up. Bling it up, let your hair down and put on a pair of heels and you’re good to go. For this look I've worn a broad metallic belt, with a simple necklace and nude peeptoes with metallic detailing to add a touch of bling.

Layering is definitely the best way to switch things up. To achieve my next look which is casual chic, I threw on a denim shirt and a big bag to head out in the day. It is a look that I find most comfortable, especially for a long day. From shopping to running some errands and grabbing a coffee in the evening I practically survived the whole day in it and still didn't want to get out of it. Be it a shirt or a light cardigan, layering can effortlessly dress down your maxi to a casual, relaxed all-day look.

For those of you who are a little more experimental, this technique is a really fun way of styling that plain old maxi dress. I put on a basic tee, knotted it up and transformed the maxi dress into a completely different and playful look.

When I buy something, I find it important to style it in different ways and add a little bit of me to it. So don’t be afraid to experiment. After all, who doesn’t enjoy playing a little dress up?!
